One And One Is One

THE SLEEVE describes it as the debut album from "the original Asian breakbeat fusionists".
Percussion is the dominant driving force throughout the album. On a track like 'Everybody Say Yeah', that rhythm is counter-balanced by the melodic keyboard line; elsewhere, funky keyboards and Susheela Raman's vocal add to the mix.
The fusion always works, whether it's the distorted guitar and vocal chant of 'Asian Vibe' or the speeding sitar and guitar lines on 'Joi Boni'. Joi's debut succeeds (most of the time) in blending diverse musical cultures.
The end result is a rewarding record that will work as a listening experience as well as in a dancefloor setting.
