On Our Radar: KY on 'iSPY'
Originally hailing from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and raised in Ireland, rapper, singer and songwriter KY has rapidly established himself as one of the country’s most hotly tipped talents. He tells us about his new ProphetSixFour-produced track, ‘iSPY'.
Your new single, ‘iSPY’, seems to mark the beginning of a new chapter for you...
This song is a statement of what I’m capable of. I need the world to hear me, and I'm sure this track will be up to my expectations. I don't compare myself to any other artist. I'm unique in my own way and I'm about to prove it.
You’re incorporating elements of drill into your sound on the new track. What inspired that?
I really mess with drill music. Therefore I incorporated the sound in this track – but in my own unique way.
Irish drill is starting to make serious waves internationally – what do you think of the state of the scene right now?
Big up every Irish drill artist out there! They’re really putting the Irish music scene on the map. But – I think it’s time to bring a new wave to the game…
You took a short hiatus after the release of ‘Foreign’ last year – what have you been focusing on in the meantime?
Honestly, I’ve just been trying to perfect my craft. Slowly but surely, I’ll get to where I want to be.
What are your plans for the months ahead?
I want to drop as many bangers as I possibly can. And I just want to make sure I make my family, my fans, and myself proud...
The video for ‘iSPY’ is out on Ollys TV now:
