Niall Horan reveals true crime themes on new album The Show
The Show's lead single, 'Heaven,' was released by Niall Horan on March 10th this year.
Niall Horan recently revealed that his forthcoming record, The Show, is partially inspired by the true crime genre.
In March, the Mullingar-born singer released the track list for his heavily anticipated third studio album, following the February release of the record's leading single 'Heaven.'
'You Could Start A Cult' is The Show's sixth track, which Horan attributes to his girlfriend Amelia Woolley and the true crime shows binged by the couple.
"I just wrote it down one night when we were watching something," the singer told NME. "I thought it was funny initially: you could literally start a cult, and I'd follow you into the fire. It started as a joke and became this really sweet song, it is funny."
Horan and Woolley publicly confirmed their relationship in 2020 and have reportedly been together since. 'You Could Start A Cult' is ostensibly a tribute to that love, featuring the lyrics:
"I would give up everything/ Who I'll be and who I am/ You can have it all/ Baby, you could start a cult, you see/ Anywhere you go, I'll be/ 'Cause you were so much morе than beautiful to me."
Horan recently performed snippets of the unreleased track to his Instagram live:
The Show is Horan's third solo record, announced following a three-year hiatus after the release of his sophomore album, Heartbreak Weather.
"This album is a piece of work I’m so proud of and now it’s time to pass it over to you to go and make it your own," Horan wrote to his Instagram in February. "Thank you so much for being there for me all this time and I can’t wait to share the next couple of years of this new era with you. I’ve missed you all so much. It’s good to be back."
The Show is set for release June 9th, 2023.
