New to Hot Press: Odd Morris
Swords four-piece Odd Morris formed when frontman Daragh Griffin had a blast of creative inspiration looking through an old journal.
"I had this scrapbook full of random musings and old poems," he recalls. "I put a melody behind it and performed it at an open mic. After that, I fell in love with the feeling of open and raw expression. I knew then and there I had to do this as a band, so I texted the lads from school, who I knew were musically gifted, and we put the band together."
Odd Morris spent 2018 gigging with some of the most talked-about acts in Ireland. Over the course of one weekend, they opened for Fontaines DC in the Roisín Dubh and supported The Murder Capital at The Workman's Club.
"We don't have to look too far for creative inspiration. Fontaines, Murder Capital, Girl Band, Just Mustard, Kojaque - we find them massively inspiring, and it's great they are all Irish." They have yet to officially release music. However, they plan on working with producer James Darkin and releasing a debut single this spring.
"An important thing for us last year was to see how far our songs in their truest form could take us," says Griffin. "We were delighted with how that went. Now the plan is to release a few singles."
