Need You Now
More generic country from puzzlingly successful Stateside trio
Back in the US, Lady Antebellum are being hailed as the new Fleetwood Mac. So how come Nashville threesome Hillary Scott, Dave Haywood and Charles Kelley have produced such a distinctly under- whelming album?
There are a few bright moments: the lush, string-laden ‘Ready To Love Again’ and the honky tonk ‘Perfect Day’. Elsewhere, dreary laments such as ‘If I Ever Knew’ collapse into tuneless dirges and the lethargic crooning on ‘Looking For A Good Time’ is positively snooze-inducing.
Throw in clichéd lyrics (blue jeans, shots of whiskey and jacked up jeeps all get their nods), bland melodies and soulless production and you end up with an instantly forgettable record. The Yanks obviously love Need You Now and it’ll probably sell a sizeable crop of copies here too, but the new Fleetwood Mac? Not on your nanny, folks.
Key Track: 'Need You Now'
