My Oracle Lives Uptown
Orb goes orbit. Nobody gets hurt.
Veteran producer William Orbit’s My Oracle Lives Uptown is an occasionally exhilarating collection of ambient electronica. The smooth beats and gentle vocals are not too far removed from Air and their AOR referencing Gallic mates. Orbit has a keen sense of detail, with the juxtapositioning of sounds a key feature of his style. Indeed, songs like ‘Radioharp’ and ‘Hydrajacked’ are nothing short of electronic gems. On some tracks though it feels as if he’s run out of ideas, leaving the final quarter of the record in particular sounding underdeveloped.
