The loooonnnggg overdue debut album from respected Dublin DJ David Cleary.
The loooonnnggg overdue debut album from respected Dublin DJ David Cleary finally arrives - worth the wait? Well, it’s subtitled ‘53 Minutes Of Dublin City Hip-Hop Instrumentals’, so that might give the game away as regards content. hotpress has two views on this record. In the red corner: This is finely crafted music for head-nodders, broadly similar to some of Mo’Wax’s output from a few years ago, if better worked. The samples are well chosen, the beats tight, the ideas interesting and... it works. In the blue corner: We want more. As an exercise in what it claims to be (see above), this is perfect. Now, let’s see this knowledgeable chap cut loose, reach deeper into his bag/brain and and deliver the unexpected treat he’s capable of.n
