Maija Sofia, Junk Drawer, MayKay and more feature on Boreens & Backroads compilation in aid of Palestine
"This compilation is our way of standing with the Palestinian people, and of using the DIY community we love to channel support where it’s needed most," Classic Hiss said.
Dublin label Classic Hiss released Boreens & Backroads, a fundraiser compilation for Palestine featuring Maija Sofia, Junk Drawer, MayKay and more.
"We are horrified by the ongoing situation in Gaza," said Classic Hiss in the album description.
"Music doesn’t change the world on its own, but solidarity matters. This compilation is our way of standing with the Palestinian people, and of using the DIY community we love to channel support where it’s needed most."
All proceeds from the compilation will go directly to Palestinian aid organisations and to legal aid for activism, according to Classic Hiss.
Boreens & Backroads features various covers of the works of Pavement and Silver Jews, which was founded by David Berman with Pavement's Stephen Malkmus and Bob Nastanovich. It also includes a cover of Pavement drummer Gary Young's solo works.
Classic Hiss said it intended to release the covers "reimagined by a cross-section of Irish underground artists."
The contributing acts are highlights of the Irish DIY and independent scenes, with genres ranging from indie pop to alternative rock to experimental electronic.
Artists include indie folk singer-songwriter Maija Sofia, Belfast psych-rockers Junk Drawer, alternative rock MayKay, genre-bending experimentalist Cormorant Tree Oh and more.
Boreens & Backroads is the first volume of a two-part project, with a second compilation featuring 16 more artists set to follow later this year.
The album artwork was created by Brian Hegarty.

Boreens & Backroads is available as a digital album for €10 via Bandcamp.
