Lucky Boy
Mehdi’s the latest off Ed Banger’s increasingly suspect production line – but while the others gradually reveal themselves as empty vessels, the Parisian is the only one actually making a decent noise.
Mehdi’s the latest off Ed Banger’s increasingly suspect production line – but while the others gradually reveal themselves as empty vessels, the Parisian is the only one actually making a decent noise. He calls it “21st Century breakdancing music” – suitably hipster, non? – and that just about fits. ‘Lucky Boy’ flits between solid-if-unexceptional electro-funk/hip-hop instrumentals/incidentals and mild-mannered ‘electro’ club bangers. The highlight is Chromeo’s guest spot on ‘I Am Somebody’ – a synth-laden tale of life on the wrong side of the velvet rope – but overall there’s a few too many skits and not quite enough hits.
