World exclusive: Courtney Love "very close" to signing to Alan McGee's Poptones label and set to release "incredible, incredible" comeback single
Ex-Hole frontwoman Courtney Love is currently in negotiations to sign a deal with Alan McGee's label, Poptones.
Following her departure from Universal six weeks ago – a contract terminated in a fierce legal wrangle – Love has been in constant talks with several labels, but according to McGee, has as good as signed with him.
"We're very close to signing Courtney," he says, speaking exclusively to Hot Press. "She's got her heart sold on signing to Poptones and me. The comeback single is incredible. It's called 'Mono' and it should be out in February, if all goes according to plan. I think she's got about four or five tracks done."
"It's an incredible record," he says, of Love's forthcoming single. "It sounds like a punk rock version of '48 Crash' by Suzi Quatro. It's as good as that. I don't care about what people say about Courtney Love - a great record is a great record and that's that. And this is an incredible, incredible piece of music."
'Mono' made its maiden voyage at a recent DeathDisco, the punk rock night run by McGee and his partner in crime BP Fallon at venues countrywide - where, upon pushing play, "everybody went bonkers", according to Beep.

Poptones are responsible for discovering acts such as The Hives and The Bellrays, with McGee taking personal credit for bringing Oasis, Primal Scream and My Bloody Valentine to the masses with his former label, Creation.
Upcoming DeathDisco dates with Alan McGee and BP Fallon include:
Old Oak, Cork on Thurs December 5
Ambassador, Dublin on Friday December 6
The Front Page, Belfast on Saturday December 7.
Joining Alan and Fallon on their excursion are psycho-mod combo The Things who will be playing live, except in Belfast where they will hit the decks instead. Added to the Dublin Ambassador show are The Sex Pixels, with the party going on until 4am -hardcore!
