LIVE REVIEW: The Creators in The Grand Social
A packed Grand Social greeted this debut show by R&B supergroup The Creators.
The brainchild of seasoned vocalist (who also plays a mean harmonica) Rory Wilson, The Creators feature the talents of Conor Brady (The Frames), Rob Malone (Lir/David Gray) and former Frame Johnny Boyle.
After a stellar support slot from punk combo Checkpoint, Rory and co took to the stage and blitzed through a high octane set of originals and choice covers.
Songs such as ‘Break The Chain’, ‘Bulletproof’ and ‘Sniff, Lick and Split’ prove he has the songwriting chops in spades, each a perfectly crafted nugget of Dr Feelgoodesque sublimity. Appropriate then that ‘Down At The Doctors’ is among the gems that gets a potent reworking at the hands of these maestros.
The quality of musicianship on display is eye-watering and the chemistry between the four makes for a compelling live experience that left the crowd baying for more at curfew. They are currently lined up to support Wilko Johnson on his forthcoming Dublin jaunt. He may want to watch his back!
