Live Report: KhakiKid moves his fans at 3Olympia
KhakiKid turned the noble 3Olympia into a energetic dance party.
Dublin’s KhakiKid has been making waves for a while now. Hes experienced an exponantional rise thanks to pop-leaning hits like 'RAINCLOUDS' and 'Date Nite', he’s quickly becoming a standout voice in the Irish music scene. Tonight’s packed show at the 3Olympia is further proof of just how far his popularity has climbed.
KhakiKid’s life has been anything but easy. His music often explores themes of feeling like an outsider due to his Irish-Libyan identity, and the highs and lows of love and heartbreak. Yet, despite the heavy subject matter, his songs remain upbeat, energetic, and full of joy.
The night starts with a support from Joe Butler, a young singer from Kildare who blends elements of R&B, Rap and Pop with soft vocals reminiscent of acts like Rex Orange County.

Two trumpet players on the left, and a guitar player to the right of the stage introduce KhakiKid, and with him the first song of the night 'Shlumped Up'.
Off the bat, the energy of both the performer and crowd are incredible. The venue is filled with die-hard fans, as they sing along to every song and verse in ecstasy.
Through the night, KhakiKid is joined by various long-time collaborators like Carsten2X and Joe Butler on stage for their respective songs. They all perform with infectious energy and are embraced by the crowd from the moment they appear.
The song 'DON'T TOUCH THE CDJ' is a highlight, with a bouncy instrumental and a tinge of hyperpop influenced sound. The song is a collaboration with Aki Oke, who also performs for most of the night alongside KhakiKid.

The instruments, be it keyboard chords, guitar strums or trumpet and saxophone horns elevate the songs' landscapes to the upper echelon. They provide every track with an natural feel that no studio recorded sound ever could.
The second part of the show takes on a distinct club feel, as KhakiKid performs his electronic, dance songs under rapidly flashing lights. The gig starts to feel like a party, as the floor stalls turn into a dance floor, with KhakiKid and his collaborators jumping into the pit every now and then to dance with fans.

He performs 'Date Nite' with about a dozen people around him, including Saint Demarcus, the vocal on the song. The song is clearly a fan favourite, judging by his fans reactions. He ends the night with a rendition of Kelly Clarkson's 2004 hit 'Since U Been Gone'. It's a song the crowd very familiar with, as the unanimous screams of "Since u been gone, I can breathe for the first time" shake the venue.
Life's struggles can make or break a person, but it is important to venture on and persevere. KhakiKid's music remains easy, fun and celebratory of life, despite his hardships.
