Live Report: Conan Gray dazzles the 3Arena during his Wishbone World Tour
The theatrical performance in Dublin marks the beginning of the EU/UK leg of the tour.
You know it is going to be a good night when fans rock up to the 3Arena wearing matching outfits. For Conan Gray’s Wishbone World Tour, that means sailor hats, hues of blue and red and clown makeup to fit themes from his latest album.
The venue erupts as opener Esha Tewari takes the stage. The Australian singer’s delicate vocals sharply contrast the roaring electric guitar and pounding drums. Her indie pop songs are adored by the crowd who sway, lift their lights and sing along.
After Tewari’s set, a quiz about Conan Gray’s career appears on the screens. The questions span topics like where the singer is from, to the actor from his most recent music video. The quiz wraps and fans begin belting tunes from the preshow playlist, including Gray’s close friend Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘bad idea right?’.
Finally, the preshow music cuts, and the screen illuminates with Act I: “a wishbone never breaks even,” and a stage resembling a farm field is revealed. Pedalling out on a bike and donning a sailor outfit to match the cover of the Wishbone album, Gray jumps off and runs over to a letterbox. Reaching in, he grabs his microphone, and immediately breaks into the lively pop song ‘My World.’

As he frolics across his wishbone-shaped catwalks, waving excitedly to fans, it is clear that he has cemented himself as one of the stars of the current generation.
After a powerful four-song opening, Gray lies on a fluffy bed, surrounded by clouds as Act II: “i got the short end of the stick,” flashes on screen. Changing into a pyjama set, it is time for the dreamy, softer tunes. The crowd backs Gray on ‘Eleven Eleven’ and ‘The Cut That Always Bleeds,’ some of his more devastating and reflective heartbreak songs.

Act III: “i took the long way to realize” begins with the catchy, indie rock tune ‘Romeo.’ Gray has switched into a light blue vest and is surrounded by nautical props. Conan later searches the crowd to find someone to help him split a wishbone, landing on a young fan dressed as a four-leaf clover. Normally, the person who ends up with the larger half gets to select between two surprise songs, but Gray only offers ‘Door.’ It is immediately clear why, as the shimmery drums and guitar perfectly surround his soft vocals, perfect runs and flawless high notes on the emotional song.

Gray wraps up the act with ‘Connell,' a stormy rock song filled with yearning, echoey vocals and dark guitar.
Closing out the night with Act IV: “i wished for love, and i found it,” the stage is back to the farm from Act I, tying the narrative of the show together. Gray plays pop classics and crowd favourites ‘Maniac’ and ‘Vodka Cranberry.’ Upon his return for the encore, he saunters out in a gorgeous bedazzled military suit adorned with little wishbone details. Gray plays ‘Memories,’ a pleading song that starts with simple piano and explodes into powerful drums and electric guitar. The evening ends with 'Caramel,' a high-energy song about a toxic relationship. The crowd yells every word as confetti explodes, leaving the arena looking magical.
As he walks off, credits roll on the screen thanking every member of the crew from creative directors to truckers and bus drivers. From start to finish, every detail of Conan Gray’s theatrical performance was well thought out and beautifully executed.
