LISTEN: Omar Apollo releases Spotify Singles, covers the Mamas & the Papas' 'California Dreamin''

Omar Apollo has released two new singles in a session with Spotify Singles. The session features a version of his latest track, 'Go Away,' as well as a cover of the Mamas & the Papas' 'California Dreamin.''

Apollo recorded the cover of 'California Dreamin'' at the same studio where it was originally recorded in Los Angeles – East West Studios. In a statement, Apollo explained why he chose the hit single from the American folk rock group.

"I chose that song because I heard it in Chungking Express by Wong Kar-Wai," said the 24-year-old. "They played it so many times in the movie that I became obsessed with it. I definitely felt like it was a time machine being at East West–it's cool to know the history behind the song when recording my version."

The other track of the Spotify Singles session is a version of his latest single, 'Go Away.' The track, which Apollo co-produced alongside Carter Lang and Chromeo, was released in July.
