Listen: Neil Young releases 'Hitchhiker' from previously unheard acoustic LP
The LP that Young recorded during a single session in 1976 at Malibu's Indigo Ranch Studios is being unearthed September 8.
Most of the ten tracks recorded on August 11 of that year, including the LP's title track 'Hitchhiker', have been released over the last 40 years on Young's subsequent albums.
'Powderfinger', 'Ride My Llama' and 'Pocahontas' appeared on Rust Never Sleeps three years later. 'Captain Kennedy' was first heard on Hawks & Doves in 1980, and a plugged-in version of 'Hitchhiker' saw the light of day on Young's 2010 LP Le Noise.
The acoustic LP Hitchhiker will have two previously unreleased tracks: 'Hawaii' and 'Give Me Strength'.
Young recorded the album with David Briggs, who worked with him on After the Gold Rush, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and others. It features post-production work by another long-time collaborator, John Hanlon.
