With the UK set to exit the EU at midnight, we've put together a playlist that reflects on life in the UK and celebrates the idea of European unity. It's certainly a day of mixed emotions around the UK, with understandable relief at the completion of exit – three-and-a-half years after the vote – mixed with sadness for many at bidding goodbye to their European neighbours.
The UK is embarking on an uncertain route, and the ultimate fate of Northern Ireland – and possibly the entire union – is bound up in how the Brexit process plays out over the next number of years. We can only hope that there is sensible discussion about the future of the North, and that the ugly strain of far-right nationalism that underpinned much of the drive for Brexit doesn't once more contaminate the British political process as the country tries to determine its next move.
Our Brexit Day playlist mixes tracks that tackle the uglier elements of British society with songs that celebrate the European ideal.
We've also linked below to Irish artist Francie Conway's self-explanatory 'One For Europe', featuring Bowie/Freddie Mercury collaborator Erdil Kizilcay.
