Lady Gaga Makes A Suitable Choice
Lady Gaga expresses her thoughts on what it truly means to be a woman in Hollywood. The singer discussed her decision to wear an oversized men's suit to ELLE's 25th annual Women in Hollywood celebration.
Lady Gaga doesn’t do anything in halves. She is an absolute perfectionist. With that being said, the singer come actress faced an enormous decision as she attended Elle’s 25th annual Women in Hollywood celebration last night in LA. What would she wear?
Knowing whatever she wore would be the talking point for days after, Gaga didn’t feel comfortable with any of her choices. Designers Dior, Calvin Klein and many more offered options for the evening, but there was one problem. They were all dresses.
Gaga had tried on at least ten different dresses, not quite feeling herself. As a final hope she spotted something unusual. “This was an oversized men’s suit made for a woman”, Gaga explained. “Not a gown. And then I began to cry. In this suit, I felt like me today. In this suit, I felt the truth of who I am well up in my gut.”
“Today I wear the pants”, Gaga declared as she reclaimed the power. As a sexual assault survivor her suit fought the ignorant opinion that women are asking for it. As if a woman’s clothing gives an open invitation. The suit was purposefully masculine, loose and unfitted. Décolletage on show baring her soul. Her hair in a slick back low-bun with simple makeup. There is no room for confusion. No bells and whistles, just a suit with a statement.
Finishing her speech she thanked those designers for sending dresses. It gave her a chance to re-learn. In true Gaga fashion, she concluded by quoting herself; “Breed compassion. Amen fashion”. Words to live by.
