Kodaline have released a new single 'We Were Only Young'. It's the first song from their fifth and final studio album due later this year via Fantasy Records.
In October 2025, the group confirmed they will disband following the release of the record. Further details about the album are yet to be announced.
'We Were Only Young' is a piano ballad, accompanied by a music video depicting a woman reflecting on the carefree times spent with her childhood friend.
The track sees frontman songwriter Steve Garrigan collaborate with producer and co-writer Mads Christensen.
"'We Were Only Young' is a bittersweet song about looking back on better times, knowing you can't ever go back. Like most songs I write, it comes from something real, that feeling of being part of something special, and only fully understanding it with time. In some ways, it reflects the journey we've been on together," said Garrigan about the single.
Formed in 2005 as 21 Demands, the North Dublin band, comprising Garrigan, Vincent May, Mark Prendergast, and Jason Boland, adopted the name Kodaline in 2012.
Their debut single, 'Give Me a Minute', topped the Irish Singles Chart in 2007, becoming the first independently released track to do so. The four-piece went on to release four studio albums, three of which reached No. 1 in Ireland. Their 2020 album, One Day at a Time, peaked at No. 2.
Kodaline's debut album In A Perfect World is set to be expanded to a 2LP pressing for this year's Record Store Day. Due out on Saturday, April 18, many songs from the album are to be pressed to vinyl for the first time.
In June, the band will kick of their final Farewell Tour, coming to Belfasts's Ulster Hall on June 17, Cork's Virgin Media Park on June 19, and Dublin's Malahide Castle on June 20.
