"We're big fans of his," the Swords chart toppers say.
Currently ensconced in Kildare country pile Pickering Forest House rehearsing for their upcoming UK and US tours (don't worry, they're not forgetting about Dublin), Kodaline took time out yesterday to catch up with Hot Press' Craig Fitzpatrick.
With news just reaching them that Gavin James has inked a deal with Capitol Records, the 'All I Want' pop-rockers were thrilled for their musical comrade.
"We're big fans of him," noted drummer Vinny May. "On our first tour we took him out with us because he's just an incredible singer-songwriter. We've had him out on tour twice."
"He's stayed in our apartment and shit!" interjects singer Stephen Garrigan.
"Yeah, continues May, "We lived in Birmingham for a while and he crashed on our couch during that tour. He's just a really lovely guy and an incredibly talented singer-songwriter. We're so happy that he's doing so well."
Guitarist Mark Prendergast was effusive in his praise for the Dublin artist.
"He was on the very first tours we did, and we got him back for the [3Arena] show. His voice is world class. It's unbelievable any time he opens his mouth. I always forget, because he's such a cool guy and so down-to-earth. So when he starts singing it's like 'fuck me man!'"
Ready to unleash second album Coming Up For Air in early February, the band were in fine form, getting in-depth about the making of the record, reliving meetings with everyone from Ed Sheeran and Hozier to Courteney Cox and Sasha Baron Cohen and opining on the state of the industry and more.
Needless to say, an extensive piece will run in the next issue of Hot Press.
