Kesha Files for Appeal in Legal Dispute Against Dr. Luke
After an initial ruling against Kesha’s case against Dr. Luke, Kesha has filed for an appeal to rebuke the results
Kesha’s fight for legal justice against her assaulter and former producer, Dr. Luke, has reignited with her decision to pursue an appeal.
According to Billboard, the appeal compares Dr. Luke’s crimes to slavery and addresses the court, “[you] can’t force someone to work… in a situation in which they don’t want to work.” Until the court rules in her favor, she will be unable to record an album without Dr. Luke, essentially forcing her to choose between her livelihood and her career.
Kesha first filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke on October 14th, 2014 with claims that he sexually, physically, and verbally abused her while he worked as her producer. For years, she was too fearful to speak out against his crimes due to his position of power over her and his influence in the music industry.
Kesha’s case speaks to larger issues in the music industry and the ruling on her case sets a precedent for similar cases in the future.
