Jameson Bow St. Sessions take Dublin by Storm!

A packed Academy was the setting for Jameson Bow St. Sessions' annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration, boasting an incredible line-up of Brian Deady, All Tvvins and Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats - fresh from a stellar acoustic warm up in the Jameson Distillery Bow St. the previous night.

The crowds arrived early, and in their numbers, for this special event, with Corkman Brian Deady treated to a raucous reception. Deady's evolution over the last few years have seen him catapulted from local hero to major label star and judging by tonight's performance with his slick, powerhouse backing combo he has certainly come into his own.

From live favourite, the gospel/doo-wop gem 'Clap Both My Hands' (the audience willingly comply) to slower, emotive number 'Betty' via 'All Star Cast' (his alternative take on the Beauty and the Beast story during which he dons a mask) he has a rapt audience grooving at his command.

Next, All Tvvins take to the stage for a set culled primarily from much lauded album IIVV. Conor Adams and Lar Kaye are in fine fettle, effortlessly casting their 80s electro/synth pop spell over an enthusiastic throng. The infectious tuneage has us dancing for the entire set as gems such as 'Unbelievable', 'Darkest Ocean' and 'Thank You' bring nostalgia with a modern twist.

And now for the night's main event, the man who can do no wrong, the incomparable Nathaniel Rateliff. The Denver musician and his Night Sweats are touted as a must-see live proposition and this performance proves why. Channelling the ghosts of Stax, the outfit proceed to electrify with a bevvy of tracks from their 2015 self-titled collection and some choice covers.

All the required elements are present and correct: Hammond organ, Steve Cropper guitar lines, Memphis Horns-esque brass section stepping in time, and at the front Nathaniel, with his glorious, uplifting vocal shimmying in Sam and Dave style.

In keeping with the occasion he impresses us with a few Irish greetings and the set includes an accomplished cover of 'Whiskey In The Jar'. The high octance performance has us singing, dancing and whooping with delight. The show-stopping single ’S.O.B.' brings the house down, but Rateliff is determined to turn things up another few notches; his enthusiasm is such that he smashes his tambourine at the end of 'I Did It’, while the encore includes a belting cover of The Band's 'The Shape I'm In’. “We are the people!”, Rateliff announces to the crowd. The packed-to-capacity venue roars its approval as the Night Sweats' frontman brings Jameson Bow St. Sessions to a spectacular finale. Go raibh maith agat, Nathaniel.
