See the 'Hot For 2024' issue of Hot Press – out now! – for our full list of the Irish acts you have to hear...
Chalk
Formed just before the world collectively closed its doors in 2019, this Belfast trio quickly impressed with their electrifying take on post-punk and techno. Big beats, nightmarish soundscapes and eardrum-rattling riffs are the order of the day for these former film students. 2023 saw them anointed ‘Best Live Act’ at the NI Music Prize and ink a deal with Nice Swan Records. This year, Chalk’s world domination seems written in the stars – they’ve more new music on the way, plus an appearance at SXSW. If you love KMFDM, Babyteeth-era Therapy? and Aphex Twin, you’ll adore this lot.
Hear: ‘Claw’.
Watch: They play Belfast’s Limelight 2 on April 12.
