Horslips drummer unveils new project
Horslips founder and drummer Eamon Carr is set to launch a new project in tandem with musician/composer Daniel Figgis.
The work is called Ascension, with lyrics by Carr and music by Figgis, and it will receive its world premiere at the Pearse Museum, St. Enda's Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin on Friday September 17.
Ascension was created specifically for the venue where Figgis is Artist-in-Residence. It features a live musical score and pre-recorded sound installation, and a five-poem cycle written and narrated by Carr. The work intertwines themes of personal journeys, shared social histories, mythic aspirations and technological achievement.
According to Figgis, "This is a thrilling opportunity. Eamon and I have known each other for years but this is the first time we've worked together. It’s also the live debut of my new ensemble and my first time working in a space I’ve wanted to work in for over ten years."
There will be two performances of Ascension at the Pearse Museum on Friday September 17, at 7.30 pm and 8.15 pm.
