HAVVK share 'Halfway Out' as final single from upcoming album Levelling
Blistering breakout band HAVVK are trio Julie Hough on vocals and bass, Matt Harris on guitar and Sam Campbell on drums.
Irish alt-grunge trio HAVVK have unleashed the gripping final single to be released from forthcoming sophomore album Levelling, titled 'Halfway Out.
The highly-anticipated second offering is due to arrive on Friday, 17th September 2021.
‘Halfway Out’ follows the success of ‘Automatic’, ‘Home’ and ‘No Patience’, which have all received excellent radio play and playlist support worldwide.
The outfit's ethereal post-rock soundscape is at its best on the song, which explores the habit of disengaging from life and from going through the motions.
Broody, atmospheric and dangerous; the guitar-heavy track deplores the tendency to view the lives of others through a narrow lens, assuming their worlds are as shiny and perfect as they appear online.
“We wrote the song as a response to the pressure that comparison culture can put particularly on young people and how it can be such a blocker for finding joy and purpose,” explains Julie Hough, vocalist and bassist for the band.
“It’s also so easy to curate your life as if everything is going fine. The song is about connecting with someone and telling them you can see that they’re struggling and offering support.”
Since their debut release in 2016, HAVVK have continued to produce a relentlessly dynamic, haunting sound that steers and surprises the listener from moments of immersive shoegaze to thrashing punk rock.
Over three EPs, 'HAVVK' (2016), 'She Knows' (2017), ‘Plans with Friends’ (2020), and with the launch of their debut album, Cause & Effect in November 2019, HAVVK have consistently proved that they are unafraid to combine hard-hitting music with an equally hard-hitting message.
With pulsating singles like 'Always the Same', 'Birds on a Wire' and 'Shifting Shape', HAVVK tackle topics such as bodily autonomy, gender expression, mental health and equality, with ferocious power, infectious hooks and an ethereal thread that runs throughout their records.
Julie and Matt are also the founders of VETA Music - the artist-led record label that is home to Maria Kelly, Sive, DYVR and St. Bishop, as well as HAVVK themselves. Originally based in London, and then Berlin, the label now calls Dublin home.
Fans who are keen to grab the vinyl or digital download on the day of release can pre-order Levelling here.
