HAPPY 60th SHANE: 'Fairytale Of New York' gets its own TV show tonight on RTÉ One
The Story of a Christmas Classic goes out at 9.35pm.
It's Christmas in the drunk tank again, and to celebrate the national broadcaster is carrying out a forensic examination into how Shane MacGowan and Jem Finer penned their finest four minutes in 1988 and have been raking in an estimated £400,000 per a year in royalties ever since.
Along with Shane MacGowan and Jem, there are contributions from other Pogues Spider Stacy and Cait O'Riordan and celebrity fans Imelda May, Paul Simon, Christy Moore and Bob Geldof.
There will also be reflections on the late Kirsty MacColl, the singer who provided Shane with the perfect vocal foil.
A national treasure that should be protected from shoddy twee covers, it is a work of genius...
