Grian Chatten, Damon Albarn, and Kae Tempest collaborate on War Child single ‘Flags’
It is the second single to be released ahead of the upcoming HELP(2) album
War Child Records have released a new single, ‘Flags’, by Grian Chatten (Fontaines D.C.), Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), and Kae Tempest, in advance of their upcoming album HELP(2).
War Child is an organisation dedicated to helping children affected by conflict. War Child Records’ first album HELP raised funds for children affected by the Bosnian War, and featured artists such as Brian Eno, Paul McCartney, Sinéad O’Connor, Oasis, Blur, and Radiohead. HELP(2) will raise funds for children affected by war all over the world, and features artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines D.C., Young Fathers, and Olivia Rodrigo.
“HELP(2) is more than an album,” said Rich Clarke, Head of Music at War Child UK. “It’s a powerful example of what can happen when the music industry comes together around a shared purpose. It has united a diverse group of artists and creatives in support of War Child’s vital work with children affected by the devastating impacts of war.
“We are immensely grateful to all the artists and teams who have donated their voices, talent and time to support our mission to ensure that no child is caught up in conflict zones. We hope this record not only raises vital funds, but also awareness of the urgent need to turn compassion into action and do more to protect children living through war.”
‘Flags’ is the second single from HELP(2) to be released, following the January release of ‘Opening Night’, by the Arctic Monkeys. The song, written by Chatten, Albarn, and Tempest, also features Johnny Marr, Dave Okumu, Adrian Utley (Portishead), Gorillaz bassist Seye Adelekan, English Teacher, and a 43-piece children’s choir, among others.
“To be gifted the chance to collaborate with such talented artists as Damon and Kae in aid of such an important cause was really special,” said Chatten. “Not to mention all of the incredible musicians who helped bring the song to life on the day. It’s a rare occasion that you feel the energy for change in such a tangible way and from so many, but that is exactly how it felt in the room that day.”
‘Flags’ is out now, and HELP(2) is out March 6.
