Glasgow band December release 'Alison Stewart (2026)' to celebrate U2 50th anniversary

December have released a new single 'Alison Stewart (2026)', to celebrate U2's 50th anniversary. The group comprises Ails (vocals), Paul (guitar and vocals), and Scott (guitars).

They cite U2 and Bruce Springsteen as major influences. They formed a group after seeing U2's The Joshua Tree World Tour in 1987.

The Scottish band gained international recognition in December 2015 with their song 'Alison Stewart', as a tribute to U2 and Alison Stewart/Hewson. All proceeds from the single were donated to Irish charity Chernobyl Children International.

Ails said:

"It was impossible not to try to mark U2’s 50th anniversary," she said.

"We’ve been life long fans and supporters and their music has been a life source. It felt right to update the the song which is a tribute song I guess focusing on U2’s themes of surrender and letting go. We want to thank them for making our lives better. We can’t wait to see what they do next."

December dropped 33 in 2017, the record was a re-interpretation of U2 classics. They have released several albums of U2 material, including football:radio, in 2024. They have also released multiple LPs featuring original material such as I will not run, in 2023.

The band are known for their performances at U2 fan events, they played at the U250 event on September 18 and 19 at The Red in Wales, alongside Ivan McCormick and Andy Rowen.
