Frightful outside, delightful in here as we bring you free sounds from the likes of Bobby Womack, Hot Chip, The Walkmen, Alabama Shakes, Liars, dEUS, The Temper Trap and Funeral Suits...
Noah’s Ark weather or not, Free Music Friday’s enthusiasm has been dampened not one jot with a killer collection of tunes to ward off the evil weather spirits.
It’s straight in, no kissing, with streams of the new Tallest Men On Earth, Bobby Womack, Japandroids, Shackleton, Man Without Country, Fear Factory, Múm, Citizens!, dEUS, Hot Chip, Neil Young, Liars and Infadels albums, courtesy of [link]http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albums.html[/link].
The latest Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Lenny Kravitz, Curren$y, Shawn Colvin and Rock Of Ages offerings are available from [link]http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/#/1[/link] while [link]http://music.aol.com/new-releases-full-cds/spinner#/1[/link] allows you to try The Hives, The Walkmen, The Melvins and The Temper Trap before you buy.
We’re indebted to Lisa Hannigan for pointing us in the direction of the [link]http://atorecords.com/springsampler[/link] download which features her good self alongside tunes from Alberta Cross, Alabama Shakes, Caitlin Rose, Mariachi El Bronx, My Morning Jacket, White Rabbits, Primus, Hey Rosetta! and Rodrigo Y Gabriela.
There’s another free sampler to be bagged at [link]http://www.occupysummerwbr.com[/link].
We’re not sure about the trivialising Occupy Summer title, but the Curren$y, Meek Mill, Wale, Waka Flocka Flame, Kirko Bangz and Stalley raps don't disappoint.
If you like what you hear of Mr. Flame, his whole Triple Life album can be devoured at [link]http://www.thesource.com/articles/223134?thesource-prod=t9pgqdsdd2kk3heqj3u8966051[/link]
Another strangely named hip hop gentleman, SpaceGhostPurp, is sharing his new album with us on this handy player.
Also getting widget-ed up is one-man Australian party machine Muscles who’s gifting us a mixtape version of his Manhood album.
We’re a bit irked with Maximo Park. Good on ‘em for streaming their excellent The National Health album at [link]https://www.facebook.com/maximopark/app_474972392519288?app_data=[/link] but why only give us a bare 90 seconds of each song? That’s not how it works chaps!
Free Music Friday had a ball hanging out at Forbidden Fruit with the lovely Field Music boys who are giving away a track at [link]http://www.field-music.co.uk[/link]. They spoke lovingly of their label, Memphis Industries, whose [link]http://soundcloud.com/memphisindustries/hooray-for-earth-true-loves[/link] sampler stream features a track apiece from the acts they had playing at Primavera.
The Funeral Suits album that Ms. Heslin of this parish gave a resounding ‘thumbs up’ to in the latest issue of Hot Press, Lily Of The Valley, can be heard at [link]http://www.hotpress.com/Funeral-Suits/news/LISTEN-Funeral-Suits-stream-debut-album-online/8964804.html?new_layout=1; http://soundcloud.com/myblogcliche1/hot-chip-if-i-was-your[/link] lets you listen to Hot Chip’s cover of Prince’s ‘If I Was Your Boyfriend’; tUnE-yArDs, Angelique Kidjo, Ahmir and ?uestlove cover their fave Fela Kuti tune at [link]http://soundcloud.com/knittingfactoryrecords/tune-yards-angelique-kidjo[/link]; and Tim Wheeler’s guest turn on the new EP by Canadian punky-types Kestrels is residing at [link]http://kestrels.bandcamp.com/track/dumb-angel[/link]
System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian returns to the fray with a new single that’s free in return for signing up to the [link]http://www.serjtankian.com/freesong[/link] mailing-list; Alabama Shakes’ mates Spirit Family Reunion suggest they’re destined for similarly great things with their [link]http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/av/2012/06/album-stream-spirit-family-reunion---no-separation.html[/link] stream; and there are 29 new North American acts to be discovered including the magnificently monikered Guantanamo Baywatch courtesy of the latest [link]http://www.spinner.com/2012/06/04/may-2012-free-songs-mixtape[/link] download.
On now to some visual treats and [link]http://www.youtube.com/presents[/link] is home to the L.A. club gig Def Leppard played last week along with archive sets from Ziggy Marley, Counting Crows, The Shins, Birdy and The Joy Formidable who give it maximum sockage.
It’s a bit on the grainy side, but Free Music Friday wants to pay tribute to Bob Welch, the former Fleetwood Mac man who was found dead yesterday of an apparent suicide. Here he is playing his big solo hit, ‘Ebony Eyes’, in 1981 with Stevie Nicks.
If you were as enchanted as us by Chairlift at Forbidden Fruit, we expect you’ll love their Black Cab Session which found them squeezing a Casio keyboard into the back of a London taxi. Lead singer Caroline Polachek appears to be a genetic splicing of Lisa Hannigan and Phantom 105.2’s Michelle Doherty. Which is a very good thing.
Seeing as album trailers are all the rage these days, we have two of ‘em from The Killers and Muse who seem to have gone dubstep. The amount of hits Battle Born and The 2nd Law are getting suggests they’re both going to be ginormo-hits.
Free Music Friday had a lovely chat yesterday with Glen Hansard. One of the subjects discussed was his jamming last month in New York with Bono. The video evidence is below.

Jerry Fish played a barnstormer of a gig recently in Dublin’s Windmill Lane, the world famous studio that’s been used by everyone from Spice Girls and The Rolling Stones to U2 and David Bowie. Here’s a little taster.
The Dublin rap titan in the making who is Lecs Luther has reverted to his birth name of Rejjie Snow and treated us to a marijuana-tastic animated video for the Crave and Jesse James-assisted 'Meddling Loops'.
We’ll be talking to Mr. Snow very shortly…
Which sadly is where Free Music Friday has to leave you for this week. Here’s to Ireland and England both winning their Euro 2012 opening games and the bleedin’ sunshine making a re-appearance. Don’t forget to hit us with your links @stuartclark66
