Free As The Morning Sun
some of it does sound like Dunnes Stores music
Any album that calims to be trying to make ‘progressive music with natural sounds’ in a jazz-funk style would normally have any right thinking person running for the hills. But, apart from the grating, over-the-top nonsense of the title track, Mr Hermano have pretty much managed to reach their lofty goals. Even if some of it does sound like Dunnes Stores music. The blissed out vocal noodle of ‘Capoeira Love Affair’, the summery jazz of ‘Suco’ and the epic ‘Jugando Con Fuego’ parts 1 and 2 are as close to new school ‘jazz’ perfection as you can get. The again, over-the-top vocal numbers like ‘It’s Love’ may make you want to destroy your stereo. A mixed bag definitely, but well worth the trouble if your latin tolerance goes all the way up to 11.
