Fine Gael councillor champions Rory Gallagher tribute
Fine Gael councillor Brendan Travers is campaigning for the naming of “The Rory Gallagher Theatre” in the Donegal town of Ballyshannon
As the row over a tribute to him in Temple Bar continues to rage, Fine Gael councillor Brendan Travers has launched a campaign for Rory Gallagher to be honoured in his hometown.
A guitarist himself, Travers is pressing for the main auditorium in Ballyshannon’s Abbey Centre to be renamed “The Rory Gallagher Theatre.”
“It’s a proposal I feel strongly about, considering the huge influence and benefit Rory Gallagher brings to the town and especially the young bands coming through the ranks who play his music,” he says.
“The organising committee of the hometown Rory Gallagher festival have promised me that they will fund a plaque for the renaming.”
