Fans to gather at Phil Lynott statue for 20th anniversary
The event will host a guided tour through the Phil Lynott collection at the Rock and Roll Museum as well as live music and stories.
Fans will gather at the Phil Lynott statue on August 23, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the unveiling of the statue.
The statue was dedicated to the memory of the Thin Lizzy frontman and was unveiled on what would have been his 56th birthday, August 19, 2005, by his mother Philomena.
Lynott's mother, who had campaigned tirelessly to persevere the memory of her son, was joined by a huge crowd outside of Bruxelle's bar. The event was followed by a memorial concert in The Point (now 3Arena), that paid tribute to one of Dublin's rock heroes.
Sculpted by Paul Daly, from bronze, the statue stands on Harry Street in Dublin and was commissioned by the Roísín Dubh Trust, which was launched in 1994 to commemorate the artistic life of the late singer.
The Phil Lynott convention will host the event, starting at 1pm at the statue, with singing and poetry reading. A guided tour of the Rock and Roll Museum to view the Lynott collection will also take place, before live music from 4pm at the Halfpenny Bridge and The Grand Social on Liffey Street.
The lineup for the event includes Swedish band Philomania, Rory Gallagher tribute act Deuce and Thin Lizzy tribute act Falling Hazard, who will be recording a song written and dedicated to Phil Lynott.
Since its erecting in 2005, the statue has become a prominent landmark of Dublin, as well as a piece of Irish rock and roll history.
