Efterklang: Piramidia
Danish Band Embrace Their Dark Side
Danish electro-indie trio Efterklang’s fourth album was born in an abandoned Russian settlement just shy of the North Pole. It was recorded over a period of nine days, in the ghost town of Piramidia, which is populated by polar bears rather than people. As a result, much of the area’s bleak and eerie surroundings seem to haunt the deliciously dark opus. Opening with the scene setting ‘Hollow Mountain’, the moody, ambient sounds and dramatic, wistful vocals create a unique world and while some of the songs may appear a little too dense at first, if you stick with it (‘The Living Layer,’ ‘Dreams Today’) you’ll find plenty of rewards.
