Ed Sheeran knocks Garth Brooks off the top of the charts
The flame-haired pop star has dethroned Garth Brooks on the Irish Album Charts, after weeks on top for the country icon.
Last week's Hot Press cover star and featured interviewee Ed Sheeran has managed to top the Irish Album Charts with his 2014 release, X. In bagging the top spot, he loosened up the firm hold that Garth Brooks' The Ultimate Hits enjoyed for weeks on end.
The country giant is now in at 2nd place and homegrown act Kodaline have moved into 3rd, a two-spot improvement from last week.
Further down the charts,AM by Arctic Monkeys has slipped out of the top ten, ranking 11th, although the Sheffield boys are still enjoying it on top of the Indie charts. The Killers managed to scrape into the top grouping this week with their greatest hits compilation Direct Hits (10).
This week also saw new entries that include David Guetta with Nothing But The Beat at 13, Bastille's Bad Blood at 37 and If You Wait by London Grammar following closely at 38.
