The hugely talented Rathcoole boy Dermot Kennedy has been making great strides in his career. And we can expect his upward trajectory to continue, with an appearance on The Ellen Show on the way later this month...
Rising Irish star Dermot Kennedy has announced that he has secured a coveted spot on The Ellen Show later this month.
"If feels quite crazy to say, but I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be performing on @TheEllenShow on 03/21!!” he said on his Instagram feed.
Dermot Kennedy is one of Ireland’s international breakthrough artists of 2019. Having started out as a busker, working in both Dublin and Boston, the 26 year-old has gone from strength to strength since he was highlighted on Spotify Discover Weekly. He was a member of the band Shadows and Dust, who racked up 300 million streams, before he went solo.
Kennedy made his U.S. TV debut in January this year, when he performed on The Late Show With Steven Colbert. He was one of just ten acts included in BBC Music’s ‘Sound of 2019’ list.
Dermot Kennedy is a superb performer and a brilliant singer, who has captured the hearts of hundreds of thousands of fans already. His single ‘After Rain’ has reached almost 20 million streams on Spotify – where Kennedy is said to have attracted a whopping 2 million listeners a month. His video for ‘Power Over Me’ has been viewed 8.7 million times – and rising.
Dermot Kennedy's music is a superb melding of different styles, from folk through pop and r’n’b to hip hop. However, it is all shot through with the magic ingredient: a marvellous dollop of Irish soul.
In May of this year, Dermot Kennedy plays four nights at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin, all of which have been sold out – reflecting a phenomenal level of popularity for an artist who has yet to release an album. He will also support Mumford & Sons at their Malahide Castle gigs.
And, earlier this week, he was announced as part of the bill for this year’s Electric Picnic festival.
All in all, it looks like a phenomenally busy year for the young Dubliner, who grew up in the village of Rathcoole. An album is expected later this year.
In the meantime, you can catch him on The Ellen Show on March 21.
