Deliverance
Grand fourth album from gypsified post-folksters
Jeremy Barnes began his musical career as the drummer for Neutral Milk Hotel, but it wasn’t until he formed A Hawk And A Hacksaw with violinist Heather Trost that the multi-instrumentalist realised his full potential. The duo cast off convention, taking listeners on a journey into Balkan roots music and eastern European folk. Deliverance, their fourth album, is easily their most confident to date. It’s grounded in Barnes’s masterful accordion and percussion – he weaves a rich musical tapestry which evokes everything from Bavarian landscapes to a riotous night in a smoky Bucharest dance house. This record is a master-class in experimental roots fusion.
Key Track: ‘Foni tu Argile’
