Darkside
Dublin dance producer shows us his dark side
On the heels of last year’s Curse Of The Voodoo Drums Pt. 2, Dublin dance producer Detboi unleashes the colossal sounding Darkside. It features nine tracks that shift between garage, drum ‘n’ bass and dubstep. Featuring low end, trippy samples and more wobbles than a one-legged man on a bouncy castle, the influences are drawn from the last 15 to 20 years of the electro scene but the noise feels fresh. Both the Quincy Jones sampling title track and the sinister and shuffling ‘Strutter’ showcase an artist at the peak of his powers. This may not be everyone’s cup of meat but it is well worth checking out, in all its throbbing glory.
