Christina Perri - Head Or Heart
Follow-up collection of epic ballads is more of the same
Philly singer-songwriter Christina Perri shot to surprise fame in 2010 after her song ‘Jar of Hearts’ was featured on the US TV series So You Think You Can Dance. A record deal and debut album brimming with heartfelt ballads – step forward Lovestrong – followed shortly, catapulting the then 24-year-old to stardom, and more importantly No. 3 in the Billboard charts. Impressive.
Three years later, Perri returns with Head Or Heart. She has opted to follow that old adage about not fixing it if it ain’t broke. In other words, if ‘Jar of Hearts’ – an earnest, tear-jerker of an epic love-song – did it for you, chances are this bad boy will too. However, if your in any way, you’ll likely find this 13-track collection hard to love.
Though there are moments of catchy singalong goodness – check ‘Burning Gold’ and ‘I Don’t Wanna Break’ – for the most part, Heard Or Heart is the type of album a 16-year-old girl might play on repeat after breaking up with her first boyfriend. And unless I’ve just described your current forlorn romantic situation, I doubt this one is for you...
