'Choosin' Texas' by Ella Langley becomes the longest-running No. 1 US single in chart history

Ella Langley's single 'Choosin' Texas', has becomes the longest-running No. 1 single in US chart history. The song first broke onto the Billboard Chart in February, and has since spent 23 weeks at No. 1.

'Choosin' Texas' joins Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas Is You', as the only singles that have surpassed more than 20 weeks at No. 1 on the US chart.

The track has seen significant succes in the UK charts, surpassing Sam Fender and Olivia Dean's single 'Rein Me In' in September to become No. 1. The song has spent 23 weeks at the top of the chart, making it the longest-running UK No. 1 as well.

Her fourth album Dandelion was released in April 2026, Langley won a record-breaking seven awards in one night at the American Country Music Awards in May.

The prominence of the single for such a lengthy period of time has raised questions about stagnation in the charts.

Critics have claimed the root of this stasis is music streaming services encouraging listeners to play the same playlists of similar songs constantly. This creates a lack of variety, and makes it more difficut for emerging artists to break through.

In 2022, a report found that more than 60% of streams were of music recorded by only the top 0.4% of artists.
