Charlie Moon announces upcoming album Charlie Moon Sings & Plays and celebratory gig
With his sophomore release, Charlie Moon's forthcoming album is an homage not only to Chet Baker but also to the jazz standard that resonated in artist's formative years.
Rising star of the Dublin jazz scene, Charlie Moon has today announced his forthcoming jazz standard album Charlie Moon Sings & Plays, out Tuesday, 21st May.
Emerging from his jazz guitar studies at Newpark in Dublin, Moon's journey into the world of singing unfolds against the backdrop of his early twenties. The artist's venture into vocal performance came from the necessity of funding his music education. The dilemma was clear: venues crave singers, not student jazz guitarists.
Despite his lack of training, Moon embraced the challenge and cut his teeth on vocal standards by drawing inspiration from the timeless Chet Baker Sings catalogue. With a nod to the late jazz trumpeter and vocalist, the singer's aptly-titled Charlie Moon Sings & Plays is named after the 1955 Chet Baker Sings and Plays record.
With a stripped-down blend of guitar and voice, this project reflects Moon's evolution from a student seeking gigs to an artist confidently navigating the realms of jazz standards—a journey influenced by the legacy of Chet Baker, and the enduring guitar stylings of Barney Kessel.
