Cardinals release new single 'Big Empty Heart' and announce UK tour
Cardinals release their new single 'Big Empty Heart' ahead of their upcoming Fontaines D.C. support slot
Cork band Cardinals have just released their new song 'Big Empty Heart' today, June 10, and have announced a UK tour for September.
Working with producer Shrink at RAK Studios, their new track comes as the group's first release of 2025, following the release of their debut EP, Cardinals, and single 'Get It!' in 2024.
Cardinals have their biggest gig yet coming up, opening for Fontaines D.C. at their Finsbury Park show in London on July 5.
In August, the five-piece indie group will support Wunderhorse in Dublin before playing with The Pogues in Boston in September.
After they return from their US gig, the band will embark on a string of UK shows in September.
'Big Empty Heart' is based on a melody written by the band's guitarist Oskar Gudinovich when he was only 12.
Frontman Euan Manning shared his thoughts on their new tune: "Big Empty Heart is a love song written from beyond the grave. It is a waltz, as waltzes are the most romantic kinds of songs.
"Oskar wrote the main melody on a Korg synthesiser when he was 12, and the song is built around that," said Manning.
