Bright Like Neon Love
Look, these guys are set to be cool this year, so you’ll have to like them, OK? It’s Daft Punk, Chic, New Order, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode… you know the du jour drill. Except, instead of the usual deadpan ice queen vocals you’d expect from such a venture, there’s a pop heart beating at the core of this record.
So you get filtered sing/hum-alongs like ‘Time Stands Still’ and ‘nn’, cool new wavers like the ESG-y ‘The Twilight’ and ‘Bright Neon Payphone’ while ‘Going Nowhere’ (which borrows from Therapy? if you ask us) deserves to be on Barney and Hooky’s new album. It’s got zero integrity but it’s fun and it’s now and it’s got some good pop songs and that’s enough.
