Splank! – the brains behind ZN – hits the nail on the head when he calls his work a “giant, friendly sonic monster”. ‘Black Toys’ is just that – effortlessly veering from squawking big-room techno to unhinged p-funk to raw electro to original electro-house (surely some mistake!), all laced with a refreshing unpredictability and playfulness complexity. And it’s fun. And in a scene that’s increasingly formulaic or humour-free, that’s a welcome diversion. Splank you very much.
