Billie Eilish becomes the youngest ever winner of PETA's Person of the Year award
Earlier this year, Eilish persuaded the fashion designer Oscar da la Renta to go fur-free at the 2021 Met Gala.
At the age of 19, Billie Eilish has been named PETA's Person of the Year for 2021.
The global animal rights group made Eilish the youngest ever recipient of the award due to her work championing veganism in fashion and food.
"Billie Eilish is making sure that the party's over for meaty, milky meals as well as for leather, fur, and silk," said PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk in a statement announcing the news.
"PETA is happier than ever to celebrate her for seizing every opportunity to point out that vegan fashion and foods are kinder to the animals and the planet we share with them."
Eilish, who is also vegan herself, earlier this year persuaded noted fashion designer Oscar da la Renta to go fur-free after making her dress for the 2021 Met Gala. "That was a really really big thing for me, and I hope that more brands follow," she said at the time, listing it as one of her career highlights in an interview with Vanity Fair.
She also has launched her own 100% vegan Nike sneakers in September and released a perfume that contains no animal-derived ingredients and was not tested on them.
On the musical front, Eilish was recently nominated for seven awards at the upcoming Grammys, including Album of the Year for Happier than Ever.
The 'Bad Guy' singer will also headline Glastonbury in 2022, becoming the youngest ever solo artist to do so.
