Big Thief release live version of 'Incomprehensible' from Dublin show, as they launch free concert archive

American indie folk-rock band Big Thief have released a live version of their track 'Incomprehensible' from a show at Dublin's 3Arena in April - as part of their free concert archive.

The Big Thief Live Archive allows fans to listen to "fully mixed concerts from the recent and distant past" for free, according to a press release.

The archive is inspired by drummer James Krivchenia's love of the Grateful Dead's extensive catalogue of live albums. Big Thief's version currently includes 10 sets, with a new performance to be added on the second Tuesday of every month moving forward.

"Every show we play holds a different energy," the band wrote in a statement. "The songs are always changing and sound different every night, and we spend so much more time on the road than in studios, and so we felt a desire to create something that captures the ever-undulating aliveness of our music through time.”

Hot Press described the April 3Arena concert as "defined by both delicate nuance and explosive release.

"It was 'Incomprehensible' - the penultimate track - that was the gig's standout moment," the review continued. "Unfolding as an exploration of societal pressures, aging, beauty standards, patriarchy and embracing growing older. There was something beautiful and healing hearing Lenker sing."

'Incomprehensible' is part of the band's sixth and most-recent studio album, Double Infinity, which was released on September 5, 2025 via 4AD.

Formed in Brooklyn in 2015, Big Thief consist of vocalist Adrienne Lenker, guitarist Buck Meek, bassist Max Oleartchik and drummer Krivchenia.
