Belfast's Sinéad Morrissey wins TS Eliot Prize
The Irish poet was honoured for her fifth collection.
A cause for celebration for Irish literature last night, as Sinéad Morrissey scooped the prestigious TS Eliot Prize For Poetry.
Her latest collection, Parallax, fended off competition from nine other shortlisted works, and the writer, who originally hails from Portadown, was clearly thrilled with the result, calling it "a dream come true." The last Irish recipient of the award was Seamus Heaney, in 2006.
The £15,000 award was presented at a ceremony at Hertford House in London.
The inaugural poet laureate of Belfast city, Morrissey reads creative writing at the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen's University.
