Albums like this should in theory be reviewed in our main section, but the Back To Mine albums are marketed as post-clubbing chill-out sessions for the dance market. Which is strange, given that only one track here – Paperclip People’s classic ‘Throw’ – has beats that make you want to arise from the laid-back and blissed-out state its companions leave you in. Criticised in some quarters for bordering on nepotism, one must ask why, as only four of the tracks are from the Rollo & Bliss stable. Opening with the sultry tones of Rollo’s sister Dido and closing with the beautiful but haunting voice of Mazzy Star, in between we are treated to an impressive array of emotive vocals on tracks from Tindersticks, Pauline Taylor and Bent, while the melodies range from plaintive to euphoric on cuts from Dusted, Sub Sub and Faithless.
