Anuna win for Ireland at the Annual Game Music Awards
The world of gaming is serious, they even have their own music awards. The Annual Game Music Awards 2017 results are out and our very own ANÚNA picked up the prize for outstanding contribution in the ensemble category.
For those of you that don’t know, ANÚNA are Ireland’s leading acapella vocal ensemble, representing the beauty of Irish musical heritage and literature all over the world, now even in the soundtrack to your computer and playstation games!
They won the award for their stunning rendition of music by Yasunori Mitsuda for the much anticipated Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which came out on December 1 2017. Their sound was so well received they’re actually going to be included in the future remastered soundtracks of the same game, which doesn’t always happen.
Don Kotowski a heavily respected critic in the gaming world said “Ireland’s ANÚNA brought a haunting and ethereal atmosphere to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, reminiscent of Mitsuda’s work on Xenogears. It’s no wonder they’ll be featured on the upcoming remastered soundtrack to that very game.”
Even Yasunori Mitsuda himself loved it, saying “ANÚNA was a new type of chorus that I’d never heard before..and I dreamt about making music with ANÚNA one day.” Can we anticipate an epic collaboration in the near future? You heard it here first!
