Antoni O’Breskey announces new album A Wild Inhabitation

Italian-born composer and pianist Antoni O’Breskey has announced a new album A Wild Inhabitation, out October 16.

Alongside the news comes the release of the first single, ‘Month of January’, and the announcement of his National Concert Hall Show on October 22.

O’Breskey made A Wild Inhabitation in collaboration with his daughter Consuelo Nerea Breschi, who is also a musician and part of the Irish traditional duo VARO.

The record features a blend of jazz and electronica, as well as a host of Irish contemporary, traditional and folk artists including Ultan O’Brien of Slow Moving Clouds, Paahto Cummins of Paahto & The Bull, Ross Chaney of the John Francis Flynn Band, Kevin Murphy of Rattling Ark and more.

“I learned this song from my all-time favorite Irish traditional singer, Dolores Keane,” said Consuelo of ‘Month of January’. “It’s a song about loss and abandonment and I find it extraordinarily powerful: in just four short verses, it delivers a tragic story while offering a stark warning to women to beware of false young men.”

“With the passing of so many legendary Irish female singers recently, including Dolores, this song is our loving tribute to her timeless legacy.”

O’Breskey and Consuelo will return to the National Concert Hall in Dublin as part of the Metronome Festival. Joining them will be Kevin Murphy on cello/vocals, Paahto Cummins on banjo/mandolin, Tom Mulrooney on double bass, Barry Carroll on hammer dulcimer and Matthew Jacobson on drums.

Earlier this year, a short documentary on O’Breskey’s life, directed by Luke McManus (North Circular), was shared. Titled The Piano Nomad, the film celebrates 50 years of music from the artist. It features contributions from composer Cormac McCarthy, journalist Siobhan Ling, author Fintan Vallaley and more.
