Amnesty International to celebrate 60th anniversary at Picnic
Amnesty International are to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights with a series of events at Electric Picnic.
The Amnesty marquee will be located beside the Leviathan tent, and will host half-hourly bingo games with big prizes and celebrity announcers Brendan Courtney, (Off the Rails), Karl Spain (The Panel) and George McMahon (Mondo from Fair City). The Freedom Café will also make a reappearance this year.
The Sunday night of the festival will feature a singalong of Happy Birthday before the Sex Pistols' Main Stage set, followed by a party in the Amnesty tent.
Roddy Doyle and Anne Enright will be among the writers on hand at Leviathan to read their contributions to the Irish Times/ Amnesty International series on the Declaration, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Hugh Linehan.
Finally, Amnesty has laid on 30 distinctive yellow and black numbered boxes throughout the site, which will serve as meeting points for punters.
