Album Review: White Lung, Premonition
Raucous stuff from Canadian punk crew
It’s been six years since we heard new music from White Lung. Now they’re back for one last hurrah, armed with a fifth and apparently final opus, which is loaded with pit anthems to please the faithful.
Very much the proverbial short, sharp, shock, Premonition bristles with hooks you’ll be whistling along to within 6.66 seconds. The LP marks the first time singer Mish Barber-Way recorded sober, and she sounds like an artist reborn.
Her passionate performances help breathe new life into the band, with the likes of the frantic ‘Hysteric’ and the metal-spiced ‘Bird’ amongst their finest ever songs. If you’re into Bad Religion, old school AFI and Pretty Girls Make Graves, you’ll fall for ‘Date Night’ and ‘Winter’s considerable charms too.
A record about growing up that refuses to pull any punches, Premonition sees these contenders go down swinging.
8/10
